Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSU)

The Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Units (PEHSUs) were created in 1998 by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and has had longstanding support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The PEHSU NPO supports a network of ten regional PEHSUs across the nation, whose vision is to create healthy environments for all children.

The Public Health Institute serves as the PEHSU National Program Office (NPO) with advisory support from the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC). AOEC’s very own board member and previous board president, Dr. Kathleen Fagan, has served as co-PI for the NPO with Mike Sage from PHI. Dr. Fagan notes that “the PEHSU program is the single most important pediatric and reproductive environmental health resource for clinicians, nurses, community health workers, and the public. The collection of expertise and knowledge is unparalleled.

A list of regional PEHSUs are below for guidance and support for ongoing concerns about the environments you and your family live and work in.
